Given not just the weather but the doom and gloom economy, we could all use a little shiny happy yellow in our lives right about now, don't you think? Yes!
Yellow hit the runways last year, making a bit of a stir on the red carpet and at the beach. Now before you start saying, "Miranda, yellow is for school bus drivers, cross walk attendants or Sesame Street characters -- not for me," think again. You CAN wear yellow, and love it.
There are may shades of yellow, from mustard to lemon to banana. (I'm getting hungry just thinking yellow.) And with those shades, come accessories, from yellow heels to ties to handbags.
Look at Mrs. Obama in her Inaugural yellow. How can that not inspire your inner yellow? If it doesn't, or if you still think you'd feel silly in such a "look at me color," consider a print in a shirt or skirt with subtle touches of yellow like in the picture below.

For you guys, let's find you a tie or tee with some mellow yellow in it. Yellow goes beautifully with gray, especially in gloomy Seattle. (Navy also works with yellow, but perhaps more for airplane pilots than other professionals.) Check out this guy, wearing a light polo sweater in a yellowish, green color. Awesome. Not too bright, not too flashy.
If you're not yet convinced to go yellow, consider these yellow fun facts:
Pure, bright and sunny yellow is the easiest color to see. People who are color blind can still usually see yellow. Yellow symbolizes wisdom and creative or intellectual energy (which seems to explains why notepads are yellow, right?). That is why people of high intellect favor yellow.
Yellow also means joy and happiness. Yellow daffodils are a symbol of unrequited love (although I still recommend that you guys give your lady long-stem red roses...better yet, two dozen.)
In addition to looking fresh and feeling not so gray, putting yellow in your life is "clinically proven" to help with:
- Clarity in decision-making
- Relief from burnout, panic, nervousness and exhaustion
- Sharper memory and concentration skills
- Protection from lethargy and depression during dull weather
So, think Yellow this spring. Think Forest Gump's Yellow Smiley Face during these tough times (not "it happens"). And don't worry, be happy.
